Our Trip Day 3: Washington DC Part 1

We braved DC with a 2 month old!? Are we crazy? Ugh, a little bit. Not gonna' lie, if it weren't for the parents I'd never try it again! Seeing them was so worth it though!

Mike and I took Aedan into DC twice, a few days apart. The first time we tried a stroller. FAIL! It was SUCH a complete hassle getting on and off busses, navigating crowded sidewalks, etc. We had a little carrier but it wasn't cut out for all day walking. By the end of the day we had HAD IT- we found a baby store in DC with a little sleuthing from my parents on the internet, and got an AMAZING baby carrier. We used it the rest if the trip and it made it so much more enjoyable.

Our first stop was Arlington National Cemetary- we managed to get to the Tomb of the Unknowns (despite a million stairs with said stroller) just in time for the changing of the guard. They still have soldiers being buried at Arlington, which I hadn't realized. The changing of the guard occurs every hour on the hour and is really elaborate and cool. Three unknown soldiers were buried there until DNA evidence identified the soldier from the Vietnam War and he was buried with his family.

We took the car into DC, which was also a mistake. If you go, TAKE THE METRO! They have the nicest public transit system- $7.50 for an all day pass, and that includes the bus too! Considering parking anywhere will cost you $18 minimum it's a steal. It's really pretty clean, and there's plenty of park and ride locations from wherever you're coming from. We did that the next day we went. We lost probably an hour in the morning just getting into the city and finding places to park.
